Folktale Week 2020

I joined the annual challenge Folktale Week, which takes place on Instagram
in November. Artists from all over the world create illustrations based on fairy tales throughout the week. I was inspired by the Slavic stories that I read when I was a child.
Tom Thumb
In the Russian version, this tale is fairly strange (like many other tales). A boy was born from the severed little finger of an old woman who accidentally deprives herself of a finger while cutting cabbage. And then he lives in the belly of the wolf.

Ritual
The tradition of Christmas caroling is very similar to Halloween. People dress up, sing ritual songs, go from door to door and receive ritual treats.
Carollers bring prosperity to the house. This evening is called "generous".
By the way, one of the Ukrainian songs sung on this holiday has become one of the most famous Christmas songs and has been translated into English - "Carol of the Bells"

Courtship
A creature that braids horses at night and rides them to exhaustion. There is no point in unraveling these braids, because the next night they will still be braided.

Solstice

Death
One of the most important characters in our mythology is the Sirin bird. Half woman, half bird. Whoever hears her singing, loses his mind and will follow her until he dies.

Harvest
"And you, beautiful maiden, do not eat my meat, gather my bones,
bury them in the garden and never forget me, water them every morning."
Khavroshechka did everything that the cow bequeathed: she was starving, she did not take meat in her mouth, and an apple tree grew out of them. Apples hang on it in bulk, golden leaves rustle, silver twigs bend. Whoever drives by - stops,
whoever passes close - admires.

Dance
Chugaister. A character that exists only in the beliefs of the inhabitants of the Ukrainian Carpathian mountains. This is a hairy grandpa who walks on harmful forest spirits and eats them. He often comes to the bonfire of travelers, talks to them and roasts his prey. He can also lure the traveler into a crazy dance that no shoes can stand. It is believed that this is an ordinary person in the past, cursed by a molfar (sorcerer) and doomed to eternal wandering in the forest. Looks like Yeti.
